Acting Director, Smithsonian’s National Postal Museum
Toby Mensforth is the acting director of the Smithsonian’s National Postal Museum. The mission of the Postal Museum is to educate, challenge and inspire its audiences on the breadth of American experiences. It has the second largest collection of any Smithsonian museum and is the repository of the national philatelic collection. In addition, it also has one of the world’s largest international philatelic collections.
Mensforth possesses more than 25 years of leadership experience in museums, cultural attractions and global organizations, including over 15 years with the Smithsonian across two tenures. He has held senior roles at IMAX Corporation, Event Network and the Canadian Museum of History, where he consistently advanced strategic planning, public engagement and institutional partnerships.
Fluent in English and French, Mensforth is recognized for blending operational expertise with visionary leadership in complex environments. He has led major modernization initiatives, expanded digital-first, visitor-centered strategies and strengthened partnerships to enhance institutional impact. Widely respected for guiding mission-driven organizations through periods of transformation, he is known for fostering innovation while building meaningful connections with diverse audiences.
