Animal Care and Use Committees

The Smithsonian has four Animal Care and Use Committees:

National Museum of Natural History (NMNH)
National Zoological Park (NZP)
Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC)
Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI)

Policy

Smithsonian Directive 605, “Animal Care and Use” - this Directive establishes policies to ensure the humane care and use of all animals involved in research, laboratory, collection, and exhibition activities at the Smithsonian Institution (SI) facilities and field locations, and to support SI compliance with applicable animal welfare laws and regulations.
