LIMA - Legal Issues in Museum Administration
Each spring since 1973, OGC co-sponsors a three-day course with the American Law Institute – Continuing Legal Education (ALI-CLE). The course is attended by museum administrators, trustees, and attorneys.
The Office of General Counsel invites you to attend the fifty-fourth annual Legal Issues in Museum Administration conference, to be offered both in-person in Denver, CO and virtually as a live webcast from April 29 - May 1, 2026.
Reconnect with colleagues and cultivate new professional connections at this year's conference. This event brings together museum professionals and their legal counsel for in-depth guidance on the most pressing legal and business issues facing museums today, led by distinguished faculty of in-house counsel, museum directors and seasoned practitioners. As always, the program will provide essential updates on important legal topics, including intellectual property, tax, and employment, keyed to the unique needs of charitable organizations.
This year's sessions will examine
- The evolving legislative and regulatory landscape affecting museums and cultural institutions;
- Developments in immigration law, with practical advice on moving people and art;
- How to craft an AI policy for your organization to embrace the benefits of AI while minimizing operational risks;
- Legal, operational, and revenue-generating issues relating to joint ventures and affiliations between museums; and
- The in-house lawyer's role in crisis management.
