Greg Bettwy

Greg Bettwy is chief of staff to the Secretary of the Smithsonian. In that role, he works with the Secretary and his senior team on major operational and programmatic issues and with the Secretary and the chief of staff to the Regents on board relations. He also oversees the day-to-day operations of the Secretary’s immediate office and plays a key role in strategic planning efforts.

From 2015 through 2018, he served concurrently as chief of staff and as the associate director in the Smithsonian’s Office of Human Resources, a position he held beginning in 2003, overseeing the Institution’s executive resources functions.

Before coming to the Smithsonian, Bettwy worked in progressively larger roles in other government agencies.

Bettwy has a Bachelor of Arts in international studies and economics from American University.
