Trigonometry in the Plane

Books and Trigonometric Tables

American History Museum

Astronomers prepared tables of trigonometric functions (especially for triangles on a sphere) from ancient times. With the introduction of the printing press, and the rapid decrease in the cost of paper, tables of trigonometric functions became widely available—sometimes as advertising giveaways. More precise tables were computed using a wide range of calculating machines and early electronic computers.
