Washington, DC Educators

Anacostia Community Museum

Educators in the District of Columbia include public and private school teachers, band directors, coaches, college and university professors, and instructors in the city’s Department of Parks and Recreation, among others. Many are practitioners, whether of diplomacy, art, or business and have a strong commitment to mentoring students. Meet DC’s notable educators, including Mary McLeod Bethune, Nannie Helen Burroughs, Anna Julia Cooper, Lillian Evans, Alice Finlayson, Zora Martin-Felton, Garry Garber, Elaine Kilbourne, Lucy Ellen Moten, Georgette Seabrooke Powell, Phil Ratner, Roy Tibbs, Alma Thomas, and James Lesesne Wells.
