Comitia Americana Medals

Nathanael Greene at Eutaw Springs, 1781

American History Museum

Congress created this medal to honor Nathanael Greene’s courageous efforts in the battle at Eutaw Springs in 1781. Although the battle did not result in an American victory it helped end British attempts to take control of the Carolinas – an important milestone in the Revolutionary War.

Augustin Dupre designed Greene’s medal, which depicts him in uniform facing left. On the reverse, a winged Victory raises a laurel wreath and palm branch.
