Description
Étienne Léopold Trouvelot (1827-1895) was a French artist, astronomer and entomologist (interested in gypsy moths) who moved to Medford, Mass. in 1851. Several of his astronomical illustrations were shown at the Centennial Exhibition held in Philadelphia in 1876. Charles Scribner’s Sons published chromolithographic copies of several Trouvelot drawings a few years later. This example represents the "TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE SUN Observed Jul. 29, 1878 at Creston, Wyoming Territory."
