Scope and Contents

"The Chief Priest cleared a small circular area about two feet in diameter in front of him. The [sacred] pipe was passed to him and placed on the western edge of this cleared space, the stem pointing toward the south, the bowl upward." -- page 85. (See T-9739 for next step). As a prayer that the earth would bring forth fruit, the ashes from the sacred pipe were deposited in the center of the "earth" and the pipe stem was offered to the earth.
