Scope and Contents

Depicts Kobe circa 1868. A handwritten Japanese inscription on the upper right border of the map reads "K̲e̲i̲ō̲ y̲o̲n̲e̲n̲ t̲s̲u̲c̲h̲i̲-̲n̲o̲-̲e̲ t̲a̲t̲s̲u̲ s̲h̲i̲g̲a̲t̲s̲u̲ s̲h̲i̲m̲̲p̲a̲n̲" (Newly printed in the fourth month of the year of the dragon). The artist's signature (illegible) and the names and addresses of Kobe and Osaka distributors are printed on the lower left. The harbor view is highlighted with ships flying foreign flags; villages, streets, temples and shrines are labeled.
