Scope and Contents
A mountaineer's guide map in the form of a flattened cone with certain features shown with overlays. Included are pictures of climbers in poses representing various mountaineering stages, a representation of the climber's torch used at the annual fire festival held on 21 July, the closing date for mountaineers, and distances from various points to the mountain top. Inscriptions idenify religious, historical, and scenic areas in the region. There are also portraits of two pioneer climbers: Itō Ihei at age 63 and Fujiwara Takekuni at age 106.
