MS 7144 Lispenard Seabury Crocker collection of Japanese maps, National Anthropological Archives, Smithsonian Institution
Scope and Contents
The map shows topographical features and various temple structures and monastaries, including the Buddha figures carved on mountain cliffs. There is also a handwritten poem in Chinese ideographs, perhaps by a Buddhist devotee, signed Issen dōnin and dated "Hōreki kino-to-u" (the year of the hare during the Hōreki period [1757-1763]).
An English label misidentifies the location of Rakanji as Nagasaki Prefecture (it is located in Otia Prefecture).
