Description
The Postal Service issued its 29-cent Cole Porter commemorative stamp on June 8, 1991, in Peru, Indiana, where the American composer was born and is buried.
Cole Porter (1891-1964) was a famous American musical comedy composer and lyricist. He created music for many Broadway plays and films. Among his best-known songs were "Night and Day," "Begin the Beguine," "Let's Do It," "What Is This Thing Called Love," and "Don't Fence Me In."
The stamps were designed by Jim Sharpe and printed in the photogravure process by the American Bank Note Company. The stamps were issued in panes of fifty.
