Approximately 100 objects comprise the first comprehensive exhibition of Nigerian art in the U.S. Works in terra cotta, bronze, ivory and stone date from 500 B.C. to the 19th C. Among highlights of the exhibition are the stylized and sophisticated Nok terra cotta heads; copper and bronze ceremonial vessels from Kgbo-Ukwo, distinguished by elaborate surface decoration; life-size bronze and terra cotta heads from Ife; and bronzes from the royal court of Benin.

This is a traveling exhibition organized by The Detroit Institute of Arts.

Catalogue and poster available at both museums.
