On view are approximately 80 carved ancestral figures, masks, musical instruments, and utilitarian objects that present the work of the Tabwa people of southeastern Zaire and northeastern Zambia in a major international exhibition for the first time. An 11-minute audio-visual slide presentation on Tabwa art and culture is shown continuously on the Third Floor.
Guest curator is Allen Roberts, Univ. of Michigan's Center for Afro-American and African Studies. The exhibition was organized and is circulated by the University Museum of Art. It traveled to the Univ. of Michigan Museum of Art, and then to the Royal Museum of Central Africa, Tervuren, Belgium.
