Recent Acquisitions: Benin Bronzes
April 1, 1983 – October 9, 1983
On view are 2 outstanding examples of Benin court art: a bronze head, dated 1350-1550, represents either a Benin ruler or is a trophy head depicting a defeated chief; and a plaque depicting a king or warrior chief and his attendants with two Portuguese soldiers or merchants.
