This major exhibition, drawn from the Seattle Art Museum's Katherine White Collection of African Art, includes 50 objects, primarily figural sculptures and masks from major cultural regions in West and Central Africa. The works, selected from a collection considered to be one of the finest of its kind in the U.S., have been installed geographically with art from the western Sudan (Mali, Upper Volta, and Ivory Coast) and the Guinea Coast (Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, and Nigeria) displayed in first floor galleries. Art from Nigeria, the Cameroon grassfields, Gabon, Zaire, and Angola is on view in second floor galleries.
