Physical Description

Silver wrist watch with luminous numbers and hands; brown leather strap. Has a plexi case that is intended to contain radiation.

Summary

In June 1927, the Fokker Tri-Motor "America" made its historic flight across the Atlantic, becoming the third aircraft -- after Charles Lindbergh's Spirit of St. Louis and Clarence Chamberlin's Colombia -- to complete a nonstop trip by air from the United States to Europe. The crew was led by Lt. Richard Byrd, who had just completed his North Pole expeditions in 1926, and had Bernt Balchen as co-pilot and George Noville as the fuel and flight engineer.
This watch was owned by Lt. George O. Noville, who served as the assistant pilot and flight engineer on the flight of the Fokker Tri-Motor "America."
