    Object Details

    Artist

    Kondo Mitsuru (Japan, born 1957)

    Label

The artist states: "The decoration on this piece makes use of an opaque white pigment that does not melt even when fired to a high temperature. Employing an extruding tool similar to that used for cake decoration, I squeezed out the white pigment to draw vertical ridges in relief. I then applied Kutani enamel colors in patterns suggested by those ridges, refiring the piece several times to melt the enamels."
