Summary
This aluminum water container is similar to those placed in one of the survival rucksacks on the Apollo Command Modules for use after splashdown while waiting for rescue and recovery. Each container holds approximately five pounds of water. Three of these canisters were included as part of the rucksack #1, which also contained a radio, survival light assembly, desalter kits, machete, three pairs of sunglasses, sunscreen, survival blankets, pocket knife, utility netting, and a fluorel foam pad.
NASA transferred these water containers to the Smithsonian Institution in 1979.
