    Description

Landscape and seascape sketch showing a view of surf pounding against the rugged coast of Maine at Mt. Desert Island. In the immediate foreground, nearby rocks encroach into the scene while, beyond them at right, a large wave crashes against the coastal cliffs and jettisons a cloud of foam and mist into the air. In the middle distant, frothing, churning surf is colored light bluish green with numerous white highlights emphasizing the whitecaps. At center, a long, dark, and rocky spit of land extends into the water and serves as one of the scene's focal points. In the background, rolling and heavily wooded terrain is visible across an ocean channel. Above, the sky is colored a hue of blue-green.
