Made of wiliwili seeds from the coral tree - red seeds: Erythrina sandwicensis; black seeds: Erythrina variegata; white (actually beige colored seeds): Erythrina variegata alba. The seeds are strung on nylon monofilament and then attached to a synthetic yarn which ties around the wearer's neck. At each end of the lei is a large round black seed of a different species.
