Summary
This spacesuit was constructed by the Hamilton Standard Company for the US Air Force, MOL (Manned Orbiting Laboratory) program in the early 1960s. The MOL program was an Air Force intelligence-gathering program that never became operational.
The suit is in the EV (Extra-Vehicular) configuration, complete with thermal coverlayer, and is composed of 21 layers, (including the cotton undergarment).
The spacesuit was developed by NASA's Manned Spaceflight Center, Crew Systems Division, and designed and constructed by the Hamilton Standard Company of Windsor Locks, Connecticut.
Transferred to the National Air and Space Museum from NASA in 1978
