    Summary

This Gemini cover-layer was made for astronaut Eugene Cernan to be used for training prior to the Gemini 9 mission in June, 1966. The modified spacesuit was to be used during extra-vehicular (EV) testing of the Astronaut Maneuvering Unit (AMU), which exhausted very hot gases. The bottom half of the suit was lined on the outside with the high chromium stainless steel fabric, Chromel-R, to insulate Cernan against the AMU exhaust.
This cover-layer of the G4-C EV spacesuit was made with extra insulating layers in the upper torso.
NASA's Johnson Space Center transferred this coverlayer to the museum in 1985.
