Kelly Air Mail Act nib pen; wood handle with steel nib; the pen is displayed inside a wood presentation case with enscribed brass plaque.

Summary

Pen Used by President Calvin Coolidge to Sign the Contract Air Mail Act.
The act authorized the postmaster general to contract domestic airmail services with commercial air carriers. It also created a set air mail rate and a level of cash subsidies to be paid to the companies carrying the mail. This act helped to create the commercial aviation industry.
