Summary
This is the plate on which the NASA-Ames prototype "virtual reality" headset was mounted. The prototype headset was built out of a combination of custom electronics and mechanical parts, coupled with modified commercial video displays. During tests, the headset was mounted on a mannequin's head, which in turn was attached to this plate. The system was built in "breadboard" fashion--with components spread out for ease of repair or modification, whereas a final product would have been compactly packaged.
Transferred from the NASA Ames Research Center to the Museum in 1997.
