    Summary

This Apollo 15 commemorative medal, the 93rd commemorative medal privately struck by the National Commemorative Society, memorializes the Apollo 15 mission in which NASA astronauts David R. Scott and James B. Irwin became the fourth crew to walk on the lunar surface while command module pilot Alfred M. Worden orbited the Moon. The medal's design, sculpted by ceramics and medallic artist Boris Buzan, features the lunar rover on the front. The reverse illustrates the launch and recovery sites for the mission by including a map of the continential United States, most of which is hidden (except for the coasts) by a depiction of the Moon. On the Moon, Apollo 15's landing site is marked with the three chevrons that illustrated Apollo 15's mission patch.
The medal was given to the Museum by the National Commemorative Society in 1972.
