Object Details

Description

Faded hoofprint of Man O’ War on paper with manager H.B. Scott's signature. The paper is mounted on cardboard. On reverse are two pictures of Mayo Clinic founder Charles Mayo, one as a young man and the other as an older man, with his autograph beneath. The signatures were aquired by autograph collector Edwin A. Rowlands.
Kentucky thoroughbred Man o' War (1917-1947) was one of the most successfull racehorses of all time, winning 20 of 21 starts in his career and setting three world records. The horse was so popular that his funeral was attended by thousands of mouners and broadcast to millions more via radio.
