The photographers Lotte Jacobi (left) and Barbara Morgan (right) had not seen one another for some time when they set foot on the campus of Northwestern University in 1982. Both in their eighties, they had traveled to Evanston, Illinois, to take part in a seminar related to the exhibition and publication Recollections: Ten Women of Photography, by Margaretta K. Mitchell, which featured Morgan and Jacobi. As the photographer Catharine Reeve, who was there on assignment for a local newspaper, explained, “Lotte was quite feisty.” Jacobi had been bothered by Reeve’s attempts at photographing them and taking “so many pictures” but eventually restarted her lively conversation with Morgan. Reeve sent Jacobi and Morgan this photograph of their meeting, and Morgan responded with great enthusiasm.
