Summary
This lapel bar was part of the Naval Ordnance Development Award given to Dr. Charles Stark Draper in December 1945 by the United States Navy's Bureau of Ordnance. This award was presented annually to the person or group who contributed significantly to the research and development of naval ordnance. Dr. Draper received it for his development of the Mark 14 gunsight used in anti-aircraft weapons. His later career included work as an accomplished engineer, a long-time Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor, and inventions that made him the "father of inertial guidance." Dr. Draper gave the award to the National Collection in 1974.
