Description

Program for a National Football League (NFL) game between the New York Giants vs. the Chicago Cardinals, held on Sunday October 18, 1936 at Manhattan's Polo Grounds. In the game, the Gians beat the Cardinals by a score of 14-6. That season, the Cardinals finished in last place in the NFL's Western Division with a record of 3-8-1. The New York Giants finished in third place in the NFL Eastern Division with a record of 5-6-1.
The program features an image of Steve Owen, then coach of the Giants, who led the team from 1930-1953. An offensive lineman on New York's 1927 championship team, Owen led the Giants to eight divisional titles and two NFL championships (1934, 1938) in his 24 years as head coach. In 1966 he was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
