Description
This Dave Bing basketball card is number 21 in a series of 175 that was manufactured by the Topps Company Inc. for the 1970-1971 National Basketball Association season. The card is longer than standard cards, measuring 2½ inches by 4 ¾ inches. The front of the card features a posed picture of the Detroit Pistons guard on an orange background. The card’s reverse features a small cartoon image illustrating the factoid that “Dave is a car dealer in the off-season,” as well as a short biography and career statistics.
Dave Bing was the second pick overall by the Detroit Pistons in 1966, and he quickly became a star in the NBA. Named to seven all-star teams in his 12-year career, Bing was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1990. He was also named one of the 50 best NBA Players in 1996. Bing continued his success in his life post-basketball, forming the successful Bing Steel Business, as well as being elected Mayor of Detroit in 2009.
