Physical Description
This trophy has a round base supporting a cup shaped body. There are two thin handles on either side of the cup body. The engraved front reads "Second Annual Race Meet, N.Y. State Fair and Automobile Club of Syracuse. Sept. 18th, 1905. First prize, 5 miles motorcycles. Won by George H. Curtiss. Time: 6:24 2/5".
Summary
Glenn Hammond Curtiss came to be known as "The Father of Naval Aviation" and "Founder of the American Aircraft Industry". He was a remarkable engineer, beginning his career as a successful motorcycle manufacturer. In 1905, Curtiss won first prize in the five mile motorcycle race with a time of 6 minutes and 24 2/5 seconds at the Second Annual Race Meet in New York.
