Description
Architecture study of the Column of Phocas in the Imperial Forum of Rome, Italy, looking northeast. Dominating the composition at center, the column stands on a stone plinth and its Corinthian capital is partially broken. Upper portion of the column catches the sun's light. In the background at left, the brick facade of the Curia Iulia is visible. Behind, a clear blue sky is shown while the brown ground is visible around all margins.
Verso: Loose botanical sketch of a deciduous tree with few leaves, and a detail of one of its leaves.
