    Description

Japanned, conical coffeepot on flared foot with a domed, hinged lid topped by small brass button knop and a crooked gooseneck spout opposite a reinforced, tapered strap handle with small arched thumbpiece. Wire-rimmed body has an added triangular piece below its vertical folded seam and one hole at spout. Painted decoration features three orange-red and medium yellow stylized flowers overpainted with alizarin and separated by palmate green leaves; all detailed in black and set against an underlying, semitransparent white circle bordered by yellow brushwork. A yellow band with black overstrokes circles rim. Yellow brushwork around foot and on lid, including eight petals or rays encircling the knop. "1891" is scratched through paint on underside; "Oct. 1891" and other indecipherable writing possibly scratched in paint near edge of base.
Attributed to the Pennsylvania Filley Tinshop of Philadelphia, PA, circa 1818-1853.
