Description
Landscape sketch showing a view of ocean surf crashing on the rocky coast of Mount Desert Island in Maine. In the foreground and middle distance at right, two rugged, rocky outcroppings are rendered in dark brown. White, frothing waves break against these rocks and the beach itself--one wave in particular is about to break at lower left. In the background, a blue, open sky is visible above a flat, oceanic horizon. The lateritious (brick-colored) ground is visible along the upper and lower margins.
