    Description (Brief)

    Dark blue silk boxing banner with green border. American Eagle at center over American shield. Four pairs of flags, Irish and American. The American flags have St. Andrews crosses. Reads "John L. Sullivan, Champion of the World, May the Best Man Win, Beat Paddy Ryan Feb 7th, 1882." Banner is framed in a gilt frame. This represents the first time Sullivan won the championship, defeating Paddy Ryan in a bare knuckle fight in Mississippi CIty, Mississippi.
