Summary
This certificate of authenticity was issued by NASA and signed by the STS-79 mission crew to certify that the accompanying set of Smithsonian commemorative coins was flown aboard the Space Shuttle "Atlantis" during September 16-26, 1996. Two sets of coins commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Smithsonian Institution were flown in space and then presented to the Institution by the crew in a ceremony at the National Air and Space Museum. One set remains in this Museum and the other is held in the Numismatics Collection of the National Museum of American History.
