Summary
This is the original box for a mechanical bank that is the first such bank produced by Duro, the Detroit-based company that began producing this model in 1947. Such banks were made to be distributed by individual bank branches as a part of promotions. A spring-loaded mechanism could launch a coin placed on the pedestal to enter the bank in the middle of the bull's eye. The design of the box, which includes a mushroom cloud, reinforced the bank's name. Although this bank was not space-themed, the other seven models produced originally by Duro in the 1950s did have space themes.
Raymond Reines donated this bank to the Museum in 2011.
