    This basketball is signed by the 1996 inductees of the Women's Institute on Sport and Education Hall of Fame. The inductees were members of the 1976 US Women's Basketball team, including Lusia Harris-Stewart, and notable women's sports advocates including Norma Cantú, Rusty Kanokogi, Linda Bunker, and Mariah Burton Nelson.

    Description

    A basketball (2017.29.4a) and its wooden base (2017.29.4b) signed by Lusia Harris and other members of the 1976 United States Women's Olympic basketball team. The Rawlings ball (a) is half red synthetic leather and a half white smooth surface. The signatures are on the side with the white smooth surface. The signatures are done in red and blue marker. The manufacturer’s name [RAWLINGS] is in large black text across the center of the ball. The ball can sit on the wooden base. The base (b) is a square piece of wood with a chamfered top edge and a large central hole for the ball to rest in. On three sides of the base are engraved metal plaques. The central plaque reads [1996 / Women’s Institute / on / Sport and Education / HALL OF FAME]. The proper right side plaque reads [LINDA BUNKER / NORMA CANTÚ / RUSTY KANOKOGI]. The proper left side plaque reads [MARIAH BURTON NELSON / 1976 UNITED STATES / WOMEN’S OLYMPIC / BASKETBALL TEAM].
