Summary
NASA used this support base to hold the IMAX payload bay camera while preparing it for installation in the in the payload bay of the space shuttle. The camera was mounted inside an insulated pressurized container in the payload bay. Using a sling, the camera was lifted off this base and installed in the container, which was then mounted on brackets to position the container at the correct angle for filming.
