Description
This self-inking lever press was made by J. F. W. Dorman of Baltimore in about 1880. The words “Baltimorean No. 10” are stenciled on the platen back; its single inking roller is missing. The press is black with painted gold decoration. It has a height of 9 inches a width of 7 inches and a length of 13 inches; its chase measures 2.5 inches by 4 inches.
J. F. W. Dorman produced a very popular range of hand lever presses. They were copied closely by several other manufacturers, notably Baumgarten of Baltimore and Sigwalt of Chicago. Dorman's Baltimorean and Baumgarten's Baltimore No. 10 presses are very similar, with small differences in the casting and paint. (see also Baltimore Jobber, 23260, described separately)
