Description
Patent model for Johann Heinrich Ehrhardt, “Improvement in Machines for Determining the Load of Car-Axles,” U.S. Patent 52,653 (Feb. 13, 1866). A brass tag on the frame reads “H. Ehrhardt / Dresden.” Ehrhardt's platform scale was designed to balance the load of locomotives and other railroad cars, so as to equalize the pressure on each of the wheels.
