Scope and Contents
This subseries provides insight into McCormick's personal and professional legal activities. Materials include contracts, agreements, probation records, affidavits, estate papers, potential suits for song royalties, information notebook, business files, testament and will, letter of intent, unpublished notes, and lawsuits.
Personal records primarily relate to the estate of Mack McCormick and Effie May Crowder. Business records contain information relating to the recording of blues artists Mance Lipscomb and Sam Hopkins. There is a substantial amount of material relating to Robert Johnson, primarily his estate, recording and book publishing rights. Folders were removed pending a Smithsonian Shared Stewardship and Ethical Returns investigation. Materials are arranged in chronological order.
