American History Museum

Object Details

Collection Collector

McCormick, Mack

Collection Citation

Robert "Mack" McCormick Collection, Archives Center, National Museum of American History, Smithsonian Institution

Scope and Contents

Dictation notes, 2006. Notes dictated by McCormick for his three-act, three-character mystery play named after a song written by Robert Johnson. The play is about his encounter with Johnson and includes a woman named Beatrice a name also from a Johnson song. The notes are recorded on both sides of the tape and includes McCormick's instructions on how to include the additional information in the manuscript. Side one covers acts one and two. He states that more information is needed about the Negro YMCA and segregation in Dallas, Texas which can be gathered from his file on the Dallas Express dating from June 1937. Side two includes a discussion about a train ride from Memphis, Tennessee to Norfolk, Virginia, and an interview with Roosevelt Sykes about Robert Johnson. McCormick is also working on the female character Beatrice, her role in the play, her physical attributes, and who he would like to play her. His discussion concludes with the end of the third act.
