Scope and Content Note

Includes photographs, newspaper articles, reviews, concert programs, general marketing materials, biographical accounts, and personal documents such as copies of birth and death certificates of jazz artists. There is a substantial amount of material documenting longstanding personal relationships Levin formed with many of the artists among them, Barney Bigard; Louis Armstrong; Joe Darensbourg; Wild Bill Davis and his wife, Anne Stewart Davis; Montudie Garland and Rosy McHargue. In addition, there are materials from private events demonstrating the dynamic social activities the Levins enjoyed within the jazz scene. Materials are first arranged in alphabetical order by the name of the artist or band. Following these materials are mostly photographs of artists for which Levin had minimal materials, maintained in the order he created. Arranged first in alphabetical order by name followed by unidentified artists, and lastly multiple musicians.
