Scope and Contents
Contains a group of black and white photographic images maintained by staff as a group of material
relating to the industrial process of extracting raw materials including coal, oil, iron, rubber, steel, and timber from the earth for consumer use. A large portion of the images document mining processes, equipment, and locations. The series is arranged in seven subseries: subseries 2.1, coal; subseries 2.2, iron; subseries 2.3; gemstones, subseries 2.4, mining; subseries 2.5, oil; subseries 2.6, rubber; subseries 2.7; steel; and subseries 2.8; timber.
Subseries 2.1, Coal, 1886-1945, undated
Include black and white images of photographs, maps, and diagrams relating to the coal industry primarily in America. The images are of mines; mining processes and drilling methods; machinery and equipment; labor communities including families engaged in mining; product and labor statistics; land valuation; rescue work; and fire coal facilities. There are a few images of mines in other countries including Rhodesia, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Germany, Great Britain, Poland, Saar, Czechoslovakia, and Holland.
Materials are arranged in subjects identified by staff and include: subseries 2.1.1, coal; subseries 2.1.2, diagrams and maps; subseries 2.1.3, general --; subseries 2.1.4, general --; subseries 2.1.5, infrastructure and laborers; subseries 2.1.6, internation; subseries 2.1.7, international product and labor statistics; subseries 2.1.8, jack leg drilling; subseries 2.1.9, Lansford Breaker Fire Coal facilities; subseries 2.1.10, loading machinery; subseries 2.1.11, Longhole drilling method; subseries 2.1.12, machinery; subseries 2.1.13, mines; subseries 2.1.14, mining communities; subseries 2.1.15, subsidence; subseries 2.1.16, Forepoling Warden Mine;
