Scope and Contents
Consists primarily of piano and vocal scores created by American composer, pianist, and bandleader Edward "Duke" Kennedy Ellington (April 29, 1899-May 24, 1974) and American jazz composer, pianist, lyricist, and arranger William "Billy" Thomas Strayhorn (November 29, 1915-May 31, 1967) including compositions such as "Azure" and "Something to Live For." Vocal lead sheets, printed music, sheet music, and songs sent to Fitzgerald for consideration are also found among these materials which are arranged in alphabetical order by song title. In addition, there is one flat box of vocal lead sheets from Fitzgerald's guest appearances on television shows and specials. These materials are arranged in alphabetical order by show title.
