Tribal identification from Stewart Brand, 1965, who stated that Shoppenagon gave a name in Ottawa language to Brand's grandmother.
5/19/61: Dr Charles J. Meyers, Detriot, Michigan, identified this man as Shop-pen-e-gonse of Grayling, Michigan. Says there is a portrait of him in the Shop-pen-e-gonse Hotel in Grayling. Pronunciation: Shapenega'nz.
