Transkei Woman, 1947. The woman has her mouth open, possibly singing. She is wearing white clay around her eyes. This white clay is obtained either from the river of from scraping a soft white stone. She is wearing a head wrap, beaded necklace, and cloth wrapped around her chest. Photograph by Constance Stuart Larrabee, 1947.
In 1947, Constance Staurt Larrabee visited the Transkei. She was there researching the housing problems in Southern Africa.
There are no prints of this negative in the Constance Stuart Larrabee Collection. EEPA produced an 8x10 study print and 6x6 contact print for reference purposes.
